Taylor Swift was quick to shut down a rumor that “The Life of a Showgirl” is her final album — a thought spiral that was started amongst fans soon after the announcement of her engagement to Travis Kelce.
Swift was asked during a BBC Radio 2 interview by Scott Mills whether her new record would be her final bow seeing that she will soon be in her married era. Swift responded with a disgusted look on her face.
“What? No…” she begins, clearly stunned by the allegation.
“I just saw some fans going, ‘Well, she’s going to get married and then she’s going to have children and [so this is] going to be the last album,” Mills added.
“That’s a shockingly offensive thing to say,” Swift said. “That’s not why people get married — so they can quit their job.”
Mills goes on to explain that sometimes Swift’s fans “panic,” and she agrees: “Oh, I know, they love to panic sometimes, but I love the person that I am with because he loves what I do, and he loves how much I am fulfilled by making art and making music,” she said.
“That’s the coolest thing about Travis. He is so passionate about what he does that me being passionate about what I do… it connects us.”
Swift isn’t in any rush to start wedding planning, but told Mills she’s still very much in the headspace she was in when crafting “Showgirl.”
“It’s nice when those things are not incongruous,” she said. In contrast, she said she’s moved on from the darkness she felt while writing her 2024 album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
“I was in such a different place in my life when I wrote it,” she explained. “[I was] just miserable. And then when I put it out, I was so happy. So it was like, ah, I love this art. I love this beautiful art about misery. I, however, am not miserable anymore so it feels weird to talk about the record because it’s like, you can be proud of the work, but you can also just not relate to that person you were.”
