Fede Dorcaz, an Argentine singer and model, died Thursday night when he was fatally shot by armed motorcyclists in Mexico City. He was 29.
Dorcaz was preparing to appear for the first time on the dancing reality show Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy, which airs on Monday. After he left rehearsals, the car in which he was riding was intercepted by two people on motorcycles and shot at least three times, including in the neck, and died instantly, according to multiple outlets.
There is speculation that the attack could have been an attempted robbery, but authorities had yet to determine a motive.
“The HOY family mourns the passing of our friend and colleague, Fede Dorcaz,” producers wrote in a statement on Instagram. We join in the grief of his entire family, his parents, and his girlfriend, Mariana Ávila. Mariana and Fede were one of our planned couples for the new season of Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy. Fede leaves a great void in our team. His memory and his passion will continue to inspire us always. Rest in peace, Fede Dorcaz.”
Dorcaz was known for his hits “No Eres Tú” and “Cara Bonita”, which earned it’s way into the Top 10 on Mexican radio. He released his debut album, Instinto, in October 2024. He also modeled for the late Giorgio Armani as well as Dolce & Gabbana.
Dorcaz, whose real name was Federico Docazberro, had lived with his family in Spain since he was 13, and he moved to Mexico a couple of years ago.
Ávila, who was set to be his dancing partner on Hoy, took to X to express her grief.
“You will always be my favorite person in the whole world. I love you, I love you, I love you and I will always love you,” she wrote. She posted again later: “I don’t want to spend one more day without you, baby, I’m waiting for your goodnight message, love please come back, you know I was never that strong without you by my side.”
