Popular Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale has been detained in a tax investigation linked to his purchase of a luxury car, his management has said. Wale’s yellow Lamborghini was seized earlier this month at the request of the US, who alleged that the vehicle was tied to the proceeds of a criminal enterprise. The network allegedly involved another Ghanaian, Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving a seven-year jail term in the US for fraud.Wale’s management did not mention the US’ allegations in their statement, saying instead that the artist was detained over “tax obligations”.In a statement posted on social media, Wale’s team…
A primary driver of the monumental endeavour to develop the yellow fever vaccine was a shared sense of responsibility that America, having the means and knowledge, should use its resources for the good of all. That sense of responsibility is now waning. Max Theiler is the first of 13 South Africans to receive a Nobel Prize (1951, physiology and medicine) for developing what became known as an attenuated vaccine for yellow fever. His discovery changed the course of medicine as it treated, cured and prevented the deaths of thousands upon thousands of people. His Swiss-born father, Sir Arnold Theiler, was…

“I P 6 8! I P 6 8!,” shouted late-night host Jimmy Fallon, trying and failing to fake excitement about the new Pixel smartphones. Fallon, who likely had never heard the technical term before, didn’t seem to realize that IP68 — a rating that indicates phones can survive being submerged in water — isn’t all that interesting as a selling point, nor is this water-resistance feature new to Google’s Pixel line. It’s been around since the 2018 Pixel 3. We’re on the Pixel 10 now, for reference. In a surreal moment that illustrated the tendency to overhype anything associated with…
Russia has launched 574 drones and 40 missiles on Ukraine in one of the heaviest bombardments in weeks, Ukrainian officials say.One person was killed in a drone and missile strike on the western city of Lviv, and 15 people were reported wounded in an attack on the south-western Transcarpathia region. The attacks came as US President Donald Trump spearheads diplomatic moves to halt the war, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the strikes highlighted why efforts to bring it to an end were “so critical”. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Ukraine is ready to meet Russia’s Vladimir Putin “in…
Will Sharpe is musical prodigy Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart in a new photos from the upcoming show Amadeus. Sky released a first look at the limited series on Thursday with Paul Bettany starring as envious court composer Antonio Salieri and Gabrielle Creevy as Constanze Weber, Mozart’s fiercely loyal wife. Based on Peter Shaffer’s award-winning stage play, and adapted by Joe Barton (Black Doves, Giri/Haji, The Lazarus Project), the five-part reimagination explores the meteoric rise and mythic downfall of one of history’s most iconic composers — and rockstar virtuoso of the 18th century, Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart. When twenty-five-year-old Amadeus arrives in bustling…
16 Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) have channelled over N14.5 trillion of workers’ retirement savings into Federal Government securities as of March 2025, highlighting the industry’s continued reliance on sovereign debt. Figures from the National Pension Commission (PenCom) show that investment in FG securities stood at N14.48tn in Q1 2025, accounting for 62.09 per cent of total pension assets of N23.33tn. This compares with N10.86tn in June 2023, when pension assets were valued at N16.76tn. This indicates PFAs raised their exposure to government paper by N3.62tn within six quarters — a 33.3 per cent increase — although the proportion of sovereign…
